Regional Distance Development Programme – Open Water Camp Success
On Saturday 30 May 2026, 30 athletes attended the second camp of the Regional Distance Development Programme at Lake 86, Cotswold Water Park.
The camp provided swimmers with a valuable opportunity to develop and refine their open water skills in a competitive environment, ahead of the Regional Open Water Championships. Across two sessions in the lake, athletes worked closely with John Ferguson and his team to build confidence and experience in key aspects of open water racing.
The first session focused on essential open water skills, including sighting, drafting, and turning techniques. Swimmers then put these skills into practice during a second session featuring race simulation, allowing them to experience realistic race scenarios and develop their tactical awareness.
Hosting the camp at the same venue as the Regional Open Water Championships provided athletes with the added benefit of becoming familiar with the course and conditions, making it an excellent preparation opportunity ahead of competition.
A huge thank you goes to John Ferguson and his team for their support and expertise in delivering another successful camp. The day provided a fantastic learning experience for all involved and highlighted the continued growth and development of open water swimming across the region.
