March Volunteer of the Month

John Bolton is Somerset ASA's webmaster and press and information officer.

John administers the County’s website and really does go above and beyond.  Not only does John publish articles sent in immediately on the website, but he also makes sure that the latest news on aquatics, funding, general sports news that can relate to aquatics and relevant information generally is on there.  On top of this he is constantly tweeting and retweeting making sure that as many of our members as possible are kept informed, it’s not just Somerset ASA news that he promotes.  Clubs and networks are thankful for the coverage if gives them - they just have to ask.  Keeping the membership up to date with regional and national news is also on John’s agenda as he scours the net for what we need to know.

John has been webmaster of the Somerset website for many many years.  His knowledge is immense and he often finds articles of interest that would not be seen otherwise.  Enquiries are dealt with promptly with a courteous and knowledgeable response.

John also sits on the Somerset Management Committee and his knowledge on not just aquatics, but business in general, is a great asset to the committee.  In 2014 his work was recognised with an award from the Management Committee.

During the County Championships there are tweets throughout the day as finals are swum, medals are won and records broken.  More often than not the results are ready to be viewed the same day, or early the next day.  At the County’s General Meeting and AGM John will be there with his camera, but also recording some of the presentations for insertion on the website so those not able to attend can access the information at any time.

Somerset ASA website is renowned for its’ coverage of anything aquatic and John’s passion and enthusiasm bursts through as you delve into the depths of the content on there.   Because it is all done so professionally and so quietly in the background, we can sometimes forget how all this information gets on there.
