Gerry Griffin

On moving to Wareham in 2003 at the age of 56 years I decided to take up sea swimming and met Bob Holman at an ASA open water seminar. That led to me joining East Dorset Open Water Swimming Club and my first ever contact with the ASA.

Following an invite to attend a Dorset Executive meeting and a vacancy for the County Treasurer initiated my involvement in the management side of swimming. As a social swimmer I didn’t feel that I could offer anything in terms of training or officiating but in a backroom role as Treasurer I felt that I could support the Association.

In 2013 Dorset gave me the honour of being the County President for a year and currently (2020) I am President of Wareham & District Swimming Club. I have been proud to serve in these roles and gained much enjoyment at observing and meeting the swimmers.

Since 2003 I have had several roles at club, County and Region level. Such roles have included me representing open water swimming as the County representative on the Region’s Open Water Committee. I represented Dorset on the Region’s Management Board for a number of years and now I return to that Board. For the last number of years I have served on the Region’s Finance Working Group.

Now (2020) with Chrissie Robinson taking the Chair for the Region I have been asked to assist with looking after the Region’s Finances and along with Chris Vickery I will do my best to maintain Chrissie’s good management style with the Region’s monies.
